We cater for all levels of students from Key Stage 1 to Post graduate

Welcome to the learning pages of our website. As a heritage charity education is at the core of our objectives. We offer a range of services for schools to support the National Curriculum. We accommodate all levels of students from Key Stage 1 to Postgraduate level.
The following page focuses on our provisions for Key Stage 2 and 3. For other education groups please contact us directly on 01983 406223 or for adult interest groups please visit the group visits page of this site.
It is essential that all schools groups pre-book a visit as we can be very busy. As soon as you have a date in mind please call us and we can advise you on availability, facilities and on the schedule of you visit.
For Key Stage 2 and 3 groups we offer the following types of visit:
Your group have use of the education room over lunchtime if you are here for a full-day activity visit. If you are here for a shorter visit we may not always be able to accommodate you in the education room for lunch. Picnic tables are available in the grounds but in the event of bad weather every effort will be made to accommodate you indoors.
We can accommodate groups of up to 60 pupils at one time. If your group is larger than 35 we request that you divide into two groups on arrival. If your group is larger than 60 please contact us to discuss how we can plan your visit. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times and remain the responsibility of their teachers. We recommend the following adult to child ratios:
The cost of your visit will vary depending on your programme but the pricing until 31st December 2008 ranges from £2.20 - £4.20 per student. All accompanying adults are FREE.
The Exhibition and Visitor Centre is fully accessible for those with physical and sensory disabilities. There is a loop system for hearing impaired visitors, large print displays for visually impaired visitors and full accessibility for wheelchair users. Please discuss any additional requirements your group may have when booking.
We encourage all teachers to come for a FREE planning visit before their education visit. Please contact us to arrange a time for this. This planning visit will allow you to familiarise yourself with the site and facilities and to complete your own risk assessment. We can provide our hazard information guidelines (as recommended by LEA's and DfES) but we are unable to complete your risk assessment.
Please be aware that although the Villa and exhibition is undercover it is an archaeological site and cannot be artificially heated. It can be rather cold, even in the summer. Please make sure you and your pupils have warm clothing if required.
If you are an Island school studying the Romans in Key Stage 2 or the Roman Empire in Key Stage 3 don't forget that there are additional resources to support you. A teacher resource pack called "Roman Vectis", which contains a wealth of material, is available to help you. Please contact us for further details.
Our education offer would not be possible without the continued generous support of Leader Plus.
